First deaf organisation in the world
Lived experience at our core
Deaf-led. Community-rooted.
Equality of rights, access and opportunity
Our work is geared towards empowering all deaf people to achieve their potential and fully participate in society, with equality of rights, access and opportunity.
We have been at the forefront of progress and positive change within the deaf community for over 185 years, and we are very proud to be a deaf-led organisation. Almost half of our staff are deaf, and many more have grown up with deaf parents or siblings. We truly understand the challenges deaf people face, and believe that our collective experience allows us to honestly position ourselves as experts in unlocking deaf people’s potential.
Learning
We share our learning and seek to learn from others in order to drive improvements.
Support
We reach out and offer personalised support, recognising that every deaf person has unique needs and preferences.
Collaboration
We form meaningful partnerships to meet local needs, addressing the gaps between services.
Experience
We value leadership informed by lived experience and believe that the needs and preferences of deaf people should be at the heart of all we do.
Celebration
We value people from all backgrounds, focus on their potential and strengths. We celebrate a positive deaf identity.
We invest in our people because our people are what make the difference. Whether you are new to the sector or an experienced professional, you will find a team that takes your development seriously, offering training opportunities, professional development support, and the kind of skilled, collaborative environment where you can genuinely grow.
Working at Deaf Action means working somewhere your expertise matters and your voice is heard. You will be part of a small but deeply experienced team tackling complex, meaningful challenges. That means real responsibility, real variety, and real impact rather than a narrow job description and a line manager you never see.
Deaf Action welcomes applications from everyone. We are committed to equality in everything we do, in the services we provide and in how we recruit. Candidates are assessed on their skills, experience and potential, and we will do whatever we can to make the process work for you. If you need any adjustments, just ask.
